L.T. Piver, Parisian perfumer since 1774
Share
Of all the brands we sell, L.T. Piver probably has the longest history. A Parisian story that begins more than a hundred and sixty years before our own shop's.
1774: “À la Reine des Fleurs”, rue Saint-Martin
In 1774, the perfumer Michel Adam opened his perfumery on rue Saint-Martin in Paris, under the sign “À la Reine des Fleurs” (To the Queen of Flowers). The name has lived on: today you will find it on the À la Reine des Fleurs eau de Cologne and on the eau de parfum of the same name.
The Pivers take over
In the early 19th century, a young clerk, Louis-Toussaint Piver, joined the business, then run by Pierre-Guillaume Dissey, a cousin of Adam. The two men became partners in 1813. When Dissey died in 1823, Louis-Toussaint Piver was left in sole charge of the company, which took his name. His son Alphonse-Honoré Piver succeeded him in 1844 and expanded production: in 1869, the soap and perfume works moved from La Villette to a large factory in Aubervilliers.
The great perfumes of the early 20th century
This was the era of the creations that made the house's reputation, and that you can still find in our shop:
- Héliotrope Blanc, already sold at the very start of the 1900s: a powdery floral with almond accents;
- Pompeia, in 1908;
- Rêve d'Or, in 1927.
These fragrances are available today as lotions (the large 423 ml bottle, to be used generously) and as 100 ml eaux de parfum.
A house that lives on
The Aubervilliers factory closed in 1973, but the brand carries on. Today it offers its classics alongside new creations, such as the Nohiba extrait and the Lait d'Iris body milk. To discover everything at once, the Bibliothèque Olfactive set brings together seven of the house's perfumes.
